Your purpose-driven business is ready to go! This is so exciting. But, before you set up a Facebook page, Twitter feed, or Instagram account, make sure you have a careful social media strategy in mind.

As social media is one of the key ways to reach your audience, this should be as much a part of your business plan as planning products and purpose. This is doubly important for purpose-driven businesses where your content will have a message too.

2) Know your audience

  Speaking of reaching your audience, make sure you know who your audience is, and plan your social media accordingly. Have a think about the kind of content your target audience might like to consume.

There is no need to leave this to chance. Do your research: ask your local community to complete surveys, talk to people in your network, and look at similar businesses online. If you tailor your social media to your dream customer, they are far more likely to come your way.

3) Make sure your content leads somewhere

 For a purpose-driven business, this is key. Potential customers and clients are not coming to your social media for pretty pictures. They’re not coming to be sold a lifestyle. They’re coming because they believe that your business can help make things better.

In return, you owe them thoughtful, interesting content which leads somewhere. Don’t post for the sake of it. Post because it matters.

 Social media is a tool for you; don’t become a slave to it. Instagram influencers will tell you that you need to post twice a day every day, keep those stories updated, and, while you’re at it, create a few reels. But that is a terrible idea if what you end up posting is meaningless filler.

Think about what you’re really using social media for. As a purpose-driven business, it is understandable to want to grow your following, but the number one strategy which is guaranteed response is authenticity.

8) Keep your eye on the prize

 Some businesses get so consumed by social media that they forget what they are using it for: to bring people to their brand, to spread the word, to get people talking. This is all very well, but there is no point attracting people to a brand that has been neglected in favour of perfect Tweets.

Remember why you started this business. Remember your hopes and aspirations – and keep your eye on the prize.

9) Get training
